- Ballads of the Book - Triptych Festival, Tramway, Glasgow - 29 April 2007

What a fantastic day this was! It really was a feast for all the senses.
Great Accoustic, Electric, DJ's, atmosphere and art?! I wish I could
have witnessed the readings, but there is only me, too many places
to be, and things to draw & see.

Aidan Moffat's poetry and onstage performance is always provocative,
darkly humerous and brilliant. He's also a great musician and DJ.
Burnt Island, Karine Polwart and Alasdair Roberts performed some
stunning music/songs. Foxface were even better than the last time
I saw them. James Yorkston was also great with his fellow musicians
on stage. Emma Pollock was lovely. Norman Blake might have been
good - but only two songs! Didn't give me any time to get right into
what his music is/was - I'm still none the wiser.
Missed Sons and Daughters, and King Creosote, but I'm saving up
to manufacture another me, so that next time I can indeed be in
two places at once!

- Arab Strap - Farewell Tour - 1 Dec 2006

The Gig at Cabaret Voltaire was indeed one of the top nights of the Year along with U.J&W’s last at King Tuts.  Tragi-Comedy by a couple of the greatest contemporary poet-musicians in Scotland, with their motley crew squished into a medieval hole of a place. Great venue for an atmospheric gig!
 
I have a lot of respect and admiration for these musicians who are sadly not together any more.  I find the music and lyrics of AS bravely human and beautiful – for people constrained by their inability to say what they really want to.
 
Malcolm and Aidan are developing new ground with their recent projects – Aidan with a few including Lucky Pierre, collaborating with ‘anti-artist’ David Shrigley, plus his Spoken Word Performances.  Malcolm Middleton is currently touring for his new album ‘A Brighter Beat’ on the label Full
Time Hobby.

- Uncle John & Whitelock's Last Gig, and their gig for Oban's Skatepark, August 2006

Live Music - Uncle John and Whitelock. One of, if not THE gig of the year - a full day skate event to raise money for Oban's skatepark was ended magnificently by that voodoo rock belter of a band, Uncle John and Whitelock, supported by the earthy-otherworld ballads of Foxface and the raw madness of The Wallopers - make of them what you will!

An amazing time had by all in a tardis like village hall in FURTHER than the back of beyond, Easdale island, complete with blazing moonlit night and meteor showers around a big roaring bonfire on a slate beach - home of the World Stone Skimming championships no less!
